Net Security

I'm such a webbie, I have many accounts with email, blogs, social networking sites and banks etc that I've finally had a think about how much info I have about myself out there on the web. I've heard some scary stories recently from friends who've had their accounts hacked and used to send junk/malicious info out to all their contacts. I've also read quite a bit on bank account hacking and I've decided to become web security conscious. My husband nearly had a fit recently when he looked through my bank statement and spotted that i'd bought some software recently online and the payment info on my statement said that it was going to Afganistan... Sometimes when you buy things online you just don't know where you're purchasing them from and to whom the money is going! It would be horrible to think that the money you were paying out were going to people who fund terrorism for instance (not that I'm saying that all companies in Afganistan fund terrorism of course...).

I've decided to secure all my sites by updating my passwords (although I've always used highly encrypted passwords). I've increased profile security on my facebook and twitter accounts, e.g so that photos, status updates and personal info can only be seen by FRIENDS and not the world and his dog.

I'm going to make sure I only buy items from pages that are reputable sites and I'm only going to use a credit card for online purchases so that my purchases are better insured.

Don't get me wrong i've been doing this 99% of the time anyway but I think we all need to be more aware of the amount of web fraud and we need to be extra vigilant that we don't make ourselves too vulnerable to attack from scammers and fraudsters. The web is a great place but like the real world (non web world) it has it's dangers.
