Oh how they fly

It's Sunday evening again! My how they come round so fast! Today's been a nice mix of work and relaxation. I didn't get up until noon and then got up to do some singing practice before heading out to my first rehearsal with Bolton Symphony Orchestra for the Opera74 New Year concert we're doing next Saturday night. I was very impressed with the orchestra, who I've not worked with before. My bits went ok and there are 2 more rehearsals so everything is on track.

This afternoon I've managed to catch up on my sky+'d medical dramas while Andy busied himself in the conservatory which is turning in to a weekend room. We decided not to get a TV in there so it could be used for reading or listening to the radio. It makes a nice change to listen to Radio 4 in there instead of in the car for a change.

Good news, for me anyway, we've finally chosen a carpet for our living room/hall & stairs. We went all the way to St Helen's to find one we liked in the end but it is going to be such a relief to get rid of this threadbare monstrosity we've got now, which has been down since before we moved in. For the last 3 or 4 years we've been meaning to change it and we've been positively encouraging people to spill on it to give us a kick up the bum to get it changed but finally, now everything else in the house has been done, we've got round to it. AMEN! The cat gave his immediate approval to the sample we brought home as he sat on it and refused to move! The next people to borrow that sample will probably find lots of ginger highlights in amongst the pile. He doesn't yet know that the arrival of new stair carpet will men the end of his frenzied carpet clawing attacks on the bottom stair. We'll have to come up with some deterent... hmmm, we'll need some luck on that one.

Back on top of the world

It's been a week of ups and downs but I'm back! I feel much better today.

Yesterday was a real mixed day. I felt low early on but cheered up as the day went on. We do manage to have a laugh in our office and the girls cheered me up. By the time I got home I was looking forward to my evening Opera rehearsal in Preston.

I've rejoined Preston Opera for the season as we are doing Samson & Delilah. There are going to be 2 shows at Preston Minster at the begining of May. I auditioned last September and they offered me the understudy role to Delilah, meaning I get to learn the role but only actually sing the whole role if, god forbid, the lead is unable to sing on the night. Not unheard of. But for a relative new comer it was a real honour to be given this opportunity. The lovely Rebecca Chellapah will be singing Delilah in performances. I've not met Rebecca but know her from her blog / and from the Royal Northern seen as I know so many people there. I'm looking forward to working with her, and with Bruce McLaren who will be playing Samson. Plus, it's great to be working with the wonderful chorus from Preston Opera. They are so friendly and welcoming and all remembered me from when I played Mercedes in Carmen back in 2006 so it was like I'd never been away.

So, yeah, I'm feeling much better.

I've got a busy few weeks ahead of me what with rehearsals for Preston Opera now adding to the rehearsals for Opera74, though the concert we're rehearsing for with Opera74 is actually on Saturday 31st January. I'll be singing with the chorus and as a soloist and we're being accompanied by Bolton Symphony Orchestra. The programme will be a mixture of Orchestral favourites and opera choruses, plus a large chunk of The Kings Rhapsody by Novello. It's just good to be performing again and I'm going to be doing plenty of it this year so I'm quite excited.
