A tip for this Autumn

I learn't a funny little piece of hear say this weekend that may come in useful if your house ever experiences an abnormal number of spiders. Apparently the wee 8 legged beasties are afeared of conkers!!! Yes, I said conkers!

A friend had been advised to put conkers in the corners of any rooms/houses where spiders were unwelcome visitors and apparently it did keep them away. She did end up with a new problem though... rotten conkers all over the house!

I have since put this in to google and apparently it is a common rumour...

 

I myself don't really like spiders. The bigger and fatter, the scarier they are and I've been know to have the odd screaming heebi jeebi fit at the sight of such a spider but I don't think i'll be using the conker method as chili the cat does love to munch on a spider and I'd hate to take that pleasure away from him. He's an expert spider catcher and he's all I need in this house but it's always good to know that there are other options. 

How did someone find this particular piece of info out? Maybe you just never see spiders on conker trees...
